La Voce del Silenzio – The Voice of Silence

And I heard, in silence, a voice inside of me (ed ho sentito, nel silenzio, una voce dentro me)…

Shopping for my parents for the holidays is next to impossible.  Like many, I scramble each year trying to think of new ways to impress – I’ve tried everything from dried fruit and nuts to photo collages, Italian specialties to personalized ‘poodle’ gifts.  This year, I decided to give them a gift that they truly have given to me.  Without my parents’ support, I would never have been able to pursue singing over the years – picking me up from musical practice, going with me on auditions, and always teaching me to never stop following my dreams.  As far back as I can remember, my family would listen to old records of Italian music from the late 60’s.  I still listen to these songs, and attached to this post, is the gift I gave to my loving parents this Christmas.  The song was performed by Mina in the late 60’s, and Andrea Boccelli resurrected the song in the past decades, both solo and in an amazing duet with Elisa.   My Mom and Dad absolutely loved my cover of the song, and I am inspired to continue recording some of my favorite Italian classics from the 60’s in the near future.

I chose this song, La Voce del Silenzio (The Voice of Silence), because when i started to really listen to the lyrics, I honestly thought about a part of myself that has been in a silent sleep for several years – my voice.  I love to sing.  I always have, and I always will.   I’m not one for New Year’s resolutions, but I do recommend always pursuing healthy choices in life, especially those that feed your spirit.   I’m returning to my passion of singing, and for the first time in my life, I feel ready for the hard work, dedication, perseverance, and absolute joy that comes with not chasing, but seizing your dreams.

Happy New Year 2012!
